Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT DO I WEAR TO CLASS?

For your first class, wear whatever you are comfortable working out in. Try not to wear anything with zippers. We have spare gi tops for you to borrow if needed.

i have an injury, should i still train?

That depends on what your doctor says. If it is ok with your doctor, then yes you can train. Make sure you inform us of your injury, and always inform your training partner as well. It is important to take it easy until your injury is healed.

my child is almost 4, or 6, almost 9, etc. which class should they be in?

We will start the student in the lower class. If they are 6 we start them in Mighty Mites, or if they are 13/14 we will start them in Juniors, etc. We leave it up to the discretion of the black belt to determine which class they will thrive in the best. Students need to be challenged in class but also comfortable.

can i go to any class day/time?

Yes. You can go to any day your class is available. We keep it flexible for your schedule.

what is open mat?

Open mat is available to any adult student, and a few approved Junior advanced students. Most students will train / live roll jiu jitsu. Other students will use the heavy bags for Muay Thai or other workout equipment. It is up to you.

There is a full list on IBJJF.com. Professor Arthur promotes students when they are ready. Stripes are given at belt promotion ceremonies, or for the children, also immediately following our in house tournament.
